First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intro is hosted by bibliophilebythesea.
This is how it works: Write down either the first paragraph of a book your are currently reading / intending to read or read in the past and share with us. I do like a good opening!
This is what I'm reading this week:
Journey into the Mystic by Jesse Giles Christiansen
Synopsis:
If you could save the earth from its sins, how much would you sacrifice?
After a tragic accident, Joel panics and runs for Alaska. Followed by the FBI, CIA, and a bizarre woman whom he meets on a train, Joel finds himself truly on a journey into the mystic. In order to unravel a dilemma that grants him the summer of his life, he must delve into Native American Mysticism, genetic tampering, and into his own heart.
The first paragraph:
What is it about trains? Just listen to their whistles blow, muted storms of longing in the distance. And if you put your ears against the soles of their boundless feet, you can hear their hum - the din of OZ.
Joel was on the run, like many who reach out for Alaska, those who wish to forget their names, their pasts. He would board the train in Atlanta and take it to Seattle, one of the faces of the earth adorned with a great mole: Mount Rainier. And from there, if things went according to plan, he would catch a ferry to Cardova, Alaska, a place only reachable by boat, plane, or memory.
Teaser Tuesday is hosted by MizB at Should be reading.
These are the rules (taken directly from MizB's blog:)
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
From Journey Into The Mystic by Jesse Giles Christiansen:

Joel checked his camouflaged duffle bag. Twice. The small body, carefully wrapped and preserved, should have posed no risk. The plan was simple: just go to Alaska and dump the body in the woods in the middle of nowhere - in the womb of Mother Nature.

"You know, you college kids are all the same. See some ad in the fucking newspaper. Come out to Alaska. Make a million dollars. You college nerds don't know shit about life out here."
"Everyone has a chance to try. This is America."
"No, this ain't America out here."
So, would you pick this book up? I've nearly finished reading, it's not very long and keeps me entertained so far.
