Easy! The Beach by Alex Garland and made into a movie with Leonardo Di Caprio. I wouldn't mind a bit of Ko Samui and beaches on Thailand. And I wouldn't mind Leonardo DiCarprio either.

This weeks question:
What are your non-book guilty pleasures? Like TV shows, food, websites, hobbies, etc.
I work full time, and sometimes carry a pager as well, so often there simply isn't enough for anything else apart from reading and blogging. I do spend a lot of time on my laptop! My family also consist of 1 hubby, 3 children (20, 18 and 15 years), 1 dog and 5 cats so it's never boring in the Farooqi household.
I also enjoy knitting and cross stitch needlecraft - have to be in the mood for it though. I like walking (power walking and rambling).
I don't actually watch a lot of TV any more. About a year ago or so, the TV in my study broke down, and I kind of didn't get to replace it and got used to not having one. Now I don't even miss it. We do have a TV in the lounge where my husband and the children mostly watch. I know it sounds silly, but I don't have the patience to sit in front of the TV and only watch - if I do, I'll take a book or the laptop and kind of watch TV as well. I'm not a gaming person at all - just doesn't tempt me at all, not even the simplest games i.e. Solitaire.
Food? Yes, I am a Food Lover. Sweet, savoury - anything. That's why I'm a serial diet club attender :)

What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?
It feels good to receive emails from publisher, asking me if they can send me books to read. It seems pretty obvious- but for me, it is still amazing that people want to hear my opinion. The Internet and my blog give me the chance to chat books to just about anyone, in any place around the world, which is just great.

How important is good writing to you? In an ideal world, a book would be beautifully written AND have great character development, plot, etc. But in the real world, which do you prefer: (1) Great characters and plot with lousy writing or (2) Middling character development and plot but gorgeous writing?
Honest? If I had to chose one, it would begreat plot and characters. While not very nice (and good editors should take care of this!), lousy writing, bad grammar etc is very annoying but if the plot and characters are great, I can actually forgive that.

Have you ever convinced someone to read a book, a series, or a whole genre? What book(s) and who was it? Did they like it?
It's quite sad really, but no-one in my family is an avid reader. Hubby doesn't read, but he is a big movie geek (which I'm not, I hardly watch TV and don't have the patience for a 1,5 hour movie, in fact I will probably take a book out whilst watching LOL). My two boys (aged 20 and 18) are not great readers. The younger one is dyslexic as well, though he did try Lord of the Rings because he loves the movies and I'm trying to get him to read Game of Thrones because he loves the series- massive books unfortunately. My 15 year old daughter would read occasionally, I keep giving her books LOL. She is into music a lot and plays guitar/violin and sings in a band so she tells me :Mum I've got no time for it :(
My place of work is not very big (all together, there is 15 permanent staff members and about 10 occasional workers) but at least one of my colleagues loves to read crime. I did give her Apple Tree Yard which she is reading at the moment, but she didn't like Gone Girl (says she gave up after 3 chapters …)
So, all in all, I'm not very successful at convincing!

Ok, sorry, I know this is going to be a really obvious and popular one - but I will have to go with Stephen King. Yes, he is my favourite author and it is also a standing joke in my family that they will save up for me to go to Maine one day and visit his home town (ok, not in a stalker-kind-of-way). And every birthday it's like 'Mum, what would you say if Stephen King would come to your birthday dinner?' Yeah… Stephen, can you read this? To be honest, I would probably be too stupid star-struck to utter a word :) Very quiet dinner.

Aww, can't wait to check out everyone's blogs on this one. So, here we go:
I have 1 dog and 5 cats.
Our dog Bonnie is a labrador, she is now 8 years old.
This photo is probably about 4 years old or so, here is Bonnie with my daughter Ruby (right) and her best friend Natasha.
Our 5 cats are:
Uncle Raja (10 years old)
My husband rescued him from the grounds of the college where he was working at the time.
Honey and Candy are sisters from the same litter, they are now 8 years old.
Medway, 5 years old.
My husband rescued him as a kitten from the grounds of the hospital where he still works, and he is named after the hospital (can you see a theme going on here with my husband and bringing home kittens!) He is the most placid cat and big friends with Bonnie the dog.
And our pretty boy :) , Arlo who is 3 years old.
He actually has some pedigree blood in him, he is half Siamese / half Russian Blue. We got him from a friend of mine who changed jobs which meant lots of travelling so she couldn't look after him any more.

I don't actually want to pick 'a' particular book, but has anyone else noticed how second books / follow up books of new authors fail to live up to the great first novel they produced?

1. The Beach - wonderful book and idea for a story, loved every single page so much I wanted to be part of this story and I can honestly say it will make my Top 50 of all times.
2. The Tesseract - DNF. Tried for about 50 pages and couldn't understand it, almost like reading a foreign language, sorry.
Sadie Smith
1. White Teeth - another great 1st book with loads of wit
2. The Authograph Man - I did finish it, but just though 'and?' No story to tell, sorry

1. A Short History of Tractors in Ukranian - funny story about an elderly Ukranian gent who finds himself a new, much younger and sexier wife to his daughter's horror
2. Strawberry Fields - about foreign workers labouring in strawberry fields. Hm.

Snap it Time! A picture is worth a thousand words. Anything and anything. Just give us a pic
Snap time? Ok, I went out in my lunch hour today today to take a few snaps right outside the front door of my place of work. And…. I thought I can give you a bit of literary history about the English writer Charles Dickens. The street were I work is located in the London Borough of Southwark, and right next to our office court building is the old prison wall of Marshalsea Prison. Dickens' father John was imprisoned there in 1824 for dept, and it made a lasting impression on Charles Dickens. A few of his books feature this prison, and his book 'Little Dorrit' is wholly set there.
This is the wall of the old prison (only the wall remains), and the building with the green windows is actually the court where I work (you can see my co-worker's car :)
And here are some plaques on the footpath leading through the alleyway.
